We all want to look our best when there is a special occasion. Whether it’s a wedding, a prom, a high school reunion, or even a vacation, we want to look good when we know people will be taking pictures. One way to make sure that you look your best at different types of events is to get a nice tan.

A beautiful, bronze complexion gives you a youthful, glowing look that others will be envious of. But there is a right way and a wrong way to go about getting the perfect tan, so we would like to share some tips to help you get your tan the right way.

Don’t Wait until the Last Minute

When you have a special event coming up, like a wedding or a reunion, you will usually know well in advance so there is no reason to wait until the last minute to start working on your tan. Besides, trying to get a tan at the last minute will only result in failure. You will either end up getting a nasty sunburn, or you will leave the tanning salon looking exactly the way you did when you went in. And that leads us to our next tip.

Build Your Tan over Time

You can’t get a nice tan in one day and it’s really not even safe to try. Overexposure to ultraviolet light has a number of associated health risks including wrinkles, premature aging, and skin cancer. Of course those risks come with “overexposure.” Exposure to moderate amounts of ultraviolet light on a regular basis is the safe way to a beautiful tan.

Exfoliate Your Skin before You Can

Exfoliating your skin before your tanning session helps remove dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, allowing the ultraviolet light to penetrate for a better tan.

Use a Moisturizer

It’s a good idea to use a moisturizer before and after your tanning session. Exposer to ultraviolet light can dry out your skin, so keep your skin hydrated for healthier, nicer looking skin.

Avoid Getting Burned on All Costs

A lot of people believe that they need to get a sunburn first, before they can get a nice tan. They think that once they get a sunburn, the burn will fade away into a nice-looking tan. This is not only untrue, it is also dangerous. Studies have shown that exposure to ultraviolet light is not as dangerous as people think and it is getting sunburns that can lead to skin cancer.

The idea that you need to get a sunburn before you get a nice tan is just completely and utterly false, so it’s really just a painful and dangerous waste of time. The safest and most effective way to get a nice tan is to do a number of short duration tanning sessions on a regular basis so that you get the tan without the burn.
